Default Problem with Death Leveling in the Zaishen Menagerie

Over the last two days, I've been trying to death level the Lvl 5 pets in the menagerie.....but something's wrong. The pets aren't gaining exp.

Now....before you ask, yes I killed all the animals except for the one I want to death level AND I attacked the pet so it would be hostile.

I'm doing it with three heroes:
  • 1 BiP saccer with all superior runes and a vamp weapon (1hp deaths)
  • 1 FC rezzer hero
  • 1 FC rezzer/Well of Power hero
  • And I'm just running whatever I feel like

The BiP'er dies the second he rezzes, but the animals aren't gaining exp. I thought it might be too fast, so I took the vamp weapon off of him and repeatedly had him die..........still nothing.

So, what am I doing wrong? Was there an update that made it impossible to DL pets in the menagerie? What's up?

Thanks guys.

P.S. The weirdest part is that I've DL'd some pets in the menagerie before. Usually, they were from Wynn, but I have DL'd the lvl 5's before...and now I can't.

You can't DL in the menagerie. That's intentional. Maybe they fixed a bug.

Are the pets staying in your aggro range? If they wander off, they won't get the xp.

You may DL in the menagerie. See http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Death_leveling.

However, pets do not gain XP from hero deaths; your character has to suicide for your strategy to work.

I believe this is it. I leveled all of the pets in the Menagerie this way with my Necro who now has over 15,000 deaths.

You need to be in the aggro bubble of the animal still. They can wonder off too far and get nothing if you set it and forget it.

You need to be the one that dies, not the heroes. The pets don't have to be IN your aggro bubble as they will still gain XP, even when not IN the aggro bubble. They can be near your bubble and level.

I've death leveled every pet except the Moss spider (and obviously the Rainbow Phoenix) in this manner.
